Brian moved to Cam in 1977 after a chance meeting with Sir Richard Lister where he was asked if he would help develop and design a new machine for his company. He was delighted to become a senior engineer on the 'Marwin' NC Crankcase machine.
His apprenticeship in Electrical Engineering, following on from Grammar School, shaped Brian's professional life and led him to be involved in many innovative projects. From his first move from his birth place, London, to his father's engineering business in Cheltenham, he went on to Dowty's as an engineer and then worked in Leicester as part of an 'automation' team and significantly contributed to the Concord Project – which as a bonus involved much European travel.
Brian, like many in Cam and Dursley had to move on from Listers on its demise but moved forward in engineering, this time, in Timber Treatment control systems.
By this time Brian was established in Cam and started to look at how he could contribute to public service in the area. Through family connections to the local ATC he became Chairman of the Civilian Welfare Committee. Alongside this he became, and was until recently, a Director of Kingshill House.
Cam Parish Council was a natural progression from both organisations and he applied to be a councillor some ten years ago where he has served since. He is now Chair of the Council putting in many hours of voluntary service on committees and in the community – and loves every minute of it!
