Increase in Cam's tax bill to fund essential services

Taxpayers in Cam will be paying an extra £3.48-a-year, or 7p per household per week, for the services offered by Cam Parish Council.

This is an increase of 3.68% on the precept, which is the portion of council tax allocated to the parish council to fund local services, projects and improvements which directly benefit the community. To calculate the precept, the parish council estimates its income and expenditure. This figure is then calculated as an amount per Council Tax Band D property and added to the council tax bill. It is set annually by Cam Parish Council and collected through the council tax by Stroud District Council.

The money raised by the precept ensures Cam Parish Council can continue to provide and maintain facilities including play areas, green spaces, allotments, war memorials and bus stops. Funding assistance is given for youth provision and community support at GL11. It also goes towards community events including the Christmas light switch on.

Cllr Jerry Fowler, the chair of Cam Parish Council, said the increase represented excellent value for money and 2025 would see even more community services being launched.

He said: "As well as delivering our normal services, the parish council's focus for the year ahead will be community projects. These will include a significant increase in community engagement and activities. Our Projects Officer will endeavour to source external funding where possible to keep parish spending down to a minimum. So if you're part of a local club, please keep an eye on our social media for how to get involved in these community events, support them or even influence our spending. Help us to create a better Cam."

Jerry said the parish council was committed to transparency in decision making and budget allocation with council meetings being open to the public and detailed reports available.

He added: "We welcome your feedback! If you have ideas for how the precept should be spent or would like to learn more about our budgets, projects and meetings please contact us."
